The 2006 Triathlon - 11th June 2006139 children aged between 8 and 15 took part in the 5th New Forest Junior Triathlon, hosted and marshalled by Totton Running Club. The event, held in partnership with New Forest Schools Partnership was held at Hounsdown School as an initiative to encourage the development of triathlon, one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. There was an excellent turnout of 19 teams from schools around Hampshire.The inaugural team competition was won by Highfield Primary School in Southampton, with Durlston Court in Lymington runners up and Highfield School, Liphook in third place. It is hoped to further develop the participation of school teams in future years to encourage the concept of 'try a tri' and provide a catalyst for participation of triathlon in the Hampshire and IOW Youth Games. A large number of New Forest schools were represented and Orchard Junior School at Dibden Purlieu gained honours with Jamie Shaw winning the boys school years 3 and 4 category. Local junior triathlon club, Chapel Tri Stars managed a clean sweep in the girls school years 3 and 4 with Caitlin Stewart, Lizzie Crook and Edie Phillips placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
