The 2004 Race - 4th July

More than 200 children took part in the 3rd New Forest Children's and Youth Triathlon, hosted and marshalled by Totton Running Club. The event, part of the BTA Southern series, was held at Tottonians RFC with the swim stage in Totton Recreation Centre. The excellent turnout was remarkable as the event clashed with Hampshire Development swimming meet.

A large number of New Forest schools were represented with Orchard Junior School at Dibden Purlieu entering the largest contingent of 10 children, and gaining honours with Ryan Taylor and James Thompson placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the boys age 9/10 category.

Local entries, both taking part in their first triathlon, worthy of a mention included Fiona Campbell, Portswood School, who placed 3rd in girls age 8 category and Emma Minge, Forres Sandle Manor School (Fordingbridge), who placed 3rd in girls age 9/10.

Local junior triathlon club, Chapel Tri Stars provided 16 entries with the following children amongst the trophies:
  • Howard Johnson - age 9/10 (1st)
  • Ben Plain - age 13/14 (2nd)
  • Leanne Renshaw - age 15/16 (1st)
  • Laura Pankhurst 15/16 (2nd)
  • Thomas Butt 15/16 (1st)
Trophies and spot prizes were presented by recently appointed BTA Regional Development Officer, Jude Ford, who travelled from Brighton.

A full list of the results can be found here. Photographs of the event can now also be found in the gallery.

With thanks to local companies, Mack International, who provided goody bags and Hobbs the Printers, who sponsored the medals for all the children taking part. Thankyou also for all the positive feedback...
