New Forest Children's and Youth Triathlon - 29 June 2003

More than 150 children took part in the second New Forest Children’s and Youth Triathlon, hosted and marshalled by Totton Running Club. The event, part of the BTA Southern series, was held at Tottonians RFC with the swim stage in Totton Recreation Centre.

A large number of New Forest schools were represented. Orchard Junior School at Dibden Purlieu entered the largest contingent of 13 children, with honours for James Jordan winning the boys age 8 and Ryan Taylor placed 2nd in the boys age 9/10 category.
Romsey and Totton Swimming club encouraged their swimmers to ‘try a tri’ and produced 17 entries with Daena Bennett winning the girls age 8 in her first triathlon, Tom Simpson coming 3rd in the boys age 8 and Peter Dibben coming second in the boys age 11/12 category.

Local junior triathlon club, Chapel Tri Stars provided 17 entries with the following children amongst the trophies:
Bethany Whitlock – age 8 2nd
Howard Johnson – age 9/10 3rd
Robert Crook – age 11/12 1st
Ben Plain – age 13/14 1st
Leanne Renshaw – age 15/16 1st
Laura Pankhurst 15/16 3rd
Martyn Hatherley 15/16 3rd

Trophies and spot prizes were presented by GB swimmer, Alex Savage.
